About Us

Camp Lor-Ray assists Evangelical Lutheran Synod and Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod churches by providing a Christ-Centered recreation environment for youth and families.The camp’s property, located just north of Muskegon, MI, consists of 165 forested acres and includes an outdoor chapel overlooking a private, 15 acre manmade lake, the 30-site Family Camp area (available May through October) and the Group Camp area which includes a dining hall/kitchen, bathhouse, pavilion, family cabin/nurse’s station and multiple cabins. Group Camp accommodates up to 93 campers.Throughout the year Camp Lor-Ray hosts multiple children’s camps and also offers facility to rent to pioneer groups and ELS & WELS members & families.Camp Lor-Ray started in 1962 as an ELS youth camp with 166 campers and counselors. Over the years it grew and progressed until it acquired its permanent home on the current property.
As an organization we also accept and confess the Christian Lutheran beliefs.

Camping and Events

Here at Camp Lor-Ray we provide a number of kids’ camps, site rentals, and events. Below you will find additional details on everything we have to offer:

Group Camping

Church groups, families, teen organizations, Pioneers, and other groups connected with the congregations of the ELS and WELS are able to rent the Kids’ Camp facilities. Other groups not associated may be allowed on a circumstantial basis. Fees & Rules
Rental rate is $7.00 per person, per night – ELS/WELS ($10.00 per person, per night – non-ELS/WELS), with an additional charge of $50.00 per day for use of the mess hall and kitchen facility (Moldstad Hall), with a $25 per night fee for a camp supervisor. Additionally, a fee of $100.00 per day for supervisory camp staff on site may apply if the rental is outside the normal summer season.
Smoking is not allowed in any structure on campus. Use extreme caution when smoking anywhere on the property due to the combustible nature of the surroundings. If campfires are to be used, they shall be supervised at all times, and shall be fully extinguished with water or covered prior to leaving the area. General clean up of the occupied buildings & grounds is expected. There shall be a general review of the campus with an LRCA representative prior to the authorized agent’s departure in effort to establish compliance with this agreement.

Kids' Camps

Camp Lor-Ray Kids’ Camp is an unforgettable way to spend a week (or maybe three) in the summer. Open to virtually all ages, summer camp at Camp Lor-Ray means spending time with friends, making new friends, playing new games, learning new activities, and exploring God’s creation, all while learning about our wonderful Savior.2023 Dates:
1st-3rd grade: July 5-7 (Wed-Fri)
4th-6th grade: July 9-14 (Sun-Fri)
7th-9th grade: July 16-21 (Sun-Fri)
Pricing (including early bird and multi-child discounts):1st-3rd Grade
1st camper: $199 ($175 before April 15)
Additional each camper, same family: $ (to be announced) ($ (to be announced) before April 15)
4th-6th & 7th-9th Grade
1st camper: $299 ($275 before April 15)

A $50 deposit (per camper) is required immediately; remaining balance must be paid at time of check-in at Camp.*Please complete and submit your application by April 15th if your child will not be able to attend Camp this summer without some form of financial assistance.
While submissions before the deadline will receive priority, requests after April 15th will be considered.
For financial assistance, complete the financial assistance request section of the application and note so on your payment. Pay the deposit as normal and we’ll contact you with further information.Bring a friend who has never been to camp before: get a $25 discount from your fee!

Staff Application

Camp Lor-Ray also employs many summer staff for anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks during the summer. Staff can request how many weeks to work, and will be hired based on qualifications, experience, the number of campers registered for the summer, and positions available.These are the summer positions available:
- Camp Manager
- Weekly Camp Directors (Pastors, vicars, male teachers, or deacons/staff ministers)
- Bible Leaders (Pastors, vicars, male teachers, or deacons/staff ministers)
- Shooting/Hunting Instructor
- Activity Director
- Craft Director
- Water Safety Instructor
- Adult Counselors (must be at least 18)
- Junior Counselors (must be at least 16)
- Nurse
Cooks
- Kitchen Help (Volunteer position, must be at least 14)

Family Camp Site Rentals

The family camp at Camp Lor-Ray is open all summer long to members of the ELS and WELS. The camp has 18 lakeside campsites (does not necessarily mean lake-view) and 12 woodside campsites. All sites have 30-amp electricity and water, and most have sewer hookups. The family camp is just a short walk from Kids’ Camp, and numerous hiking and biking trails are connected to the family camp. Cooking of any kind is not permitted inside the cabin. For health reasons, pets are not allowed inside the cabin.First Aid Cabin Rate:The Nurse’s Cabin at Kids’ Camp may be rented for $60 per night (plus a $10 cleaning fee) on a first-come, first-served basis. The rate includes up to four persons. An additional per-person charge of $7 per night applies to each person over the initial included four persons. The maximum occupancy is 12 persons.Please check in and out with Family Camp Manager.Notes:
• Camping season begins on the first Saturday in May and ends on the last Saturday in October.
• All fees are to be paid online, directly to the Family Camp Manager, or placed in the ‘Fee Pipe’ on camp site #3.
