Don’t you wish camp lasted all year-round? While the living in rustic cabins with dozens of other campers may not be possible all year-round, the basic elements that make Camp Lor-Ray Camp Lor-Ray are possible and easy for you to do at home! Here’s how:
1. Begin your day with devotion
Each day at Camp Lor-Ray begins with an opening devotion, so start yours that way too. At Camp, we gather together right after breakfast before the altar in the dining hall. Try gathering your family around your “family altar” at home: pick a place in your house every morning that you can set aside as a place to be in God’s Word. This could be as simple as reading the Bible together at your family table.
2. Do an activity
We love group activities at Camp: Capture the Flag, Counselor Scavenger Hunt, the Triathlon. Do something together as a family, or with other Lutheran families. Soccer? Board games? Parent scavenger hunt? The possibilities are endless. It’s fun, plus it helps foster a good relationship between you and your children.
3. Plan a time for Bible study
At Camp, we are blessed to have pastors who can lead us in two Bible studies per day. The campers are able to develop relationships with them and depend on them for spiritual guidance. At home, you’re blessed with a pastor who can also lead you in Bible study. Although he can’t do it every day, he’d love to lead your whole family in Bible study at church on Sundays or whenever you have Bible study. He’d also love to suggest resources so you can do your own Bible study together as a family at home.
4. Sing a hymn (campfire optional)
Singing. Sounds old fashioned right? Ask the dozens of campers and adults who sing their hearts out to a hymn around the campfire. It’s how we close every day. Hymns can be used to teach the faith, and that’s the most important thing we have in this world. Can’t sing? Why not read through some hymns and talk about the lyrics? “Abide with me…”
