The first Lutheran Girl and Boy Pioneer train ventured out to Camp Lor-Ray in the summer of 1966. It was with their help that the entrance road into Camp Lor-Ray was cleared. The current train of Pioneers have been attending District Camp since 1981 at Camp Lor-Ray. The girls started first and the boys followed a few years later. During the years we have seen so many improvements. Where else can you find beds, showers, a dining hall, kitchen with a walk in cooler, a freezer, and all kinds of utensils to use, a beautiful lake, with canoes, kayaks, trampoline, water-slide, and of course fishing in designated areas?!
The pioneers also have a chapel service at Camp Lor-Ray at the beautiful outdoor chapel overlooking the lake. What a restful and peaceful place to sit and listen to the word of God from one of our area Pastors who comes and does the service!
Some Pioneers started coming as Susie Sunbeams and Buckaroos and still attend each year until they finish the program.
The Michigan Circuit of the Lutheran Pioneers is so blessed to have such a beautiful camp to attend! The Boy Pioneers are in the Four Flags District and the girls are in the Appleblossom District of Southwestern Michigan.
